...January at Rochester Minnesota was warmer than normal and
received above normal precipitation...

The average temperature for the month was 18.6 degrees, which was
2.8 degrees above normal. The average high temperature was 24.6
degrees and the average low was 12.5 degrees. The highest
temperature for the month was 37 degrees on the 30th and the
coldest temperature was 13 degrees below zero which occurred on
the 6th.

A total of 2.12 inches of precipitation fell during the month. This
was 1.26 inches above normal. The greatest 24 hour precipitation was
seventy eight hundredths of an inch, which occurred from the 24th
through the 25th.

A total of 13.2 inches of snow fell in the month. The greatest 24
hour snowfall was 6.0 inches which occurred on the 25th.

...Records...

The temperature dropped to 33 degrees on the 20th. This broke the
record highest low temperature of 31 degrees previously set in 1974.

The temperature fell to 33 degrees on the 21st. This tied the record
highest low temperature set in 1934.

Rochester received 6.0 inches of snow on the 25th. This broke the
record for the daily snowfall amount of 5.9 inches previously set in
1996.

Forty five hundredths of an inch of precipitation fell on the 25th.
This broke the record for the daily precipitation amount of forty
two hundredths of an inch previously set in 1950.

...Discussion...

Rochester was warmer than normal in the month of January. The
coldest stretch occurred from the 4th through the 15th...where the
average daily temperature ranged from 22 degrees below normal to 5
degrees above normal. The warmest stretch occurred from the 16th to
the 28th...where the average daily temperature ranged from 4 to 20
degrees above the normal. There were 9 days where the temperature
dropped below zero during the month.

During the month of January, precipitation was above normal. The
wettest stretch occurred from the 16th through the 25th, where 1.56
inches of precipitation fell. There were 11 days of measurable
precipitation in the month.

The average temperature for February is 20.3 degrees. The average
high is 28.1 degrees and the average low is 12.4 degrees. The
