.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 325 AM CDT Sat Jun 15 2024

Skies this morning are clear with temperatures in the 60`s to
lower 70`s. Drier air continues to slowly push south into the
region. Dewpoints in the upper 50`s to near 60 are observed
across southern IL, southwest IN, with lower 60`s elsewhere. An
easterly wind today will continue to keep dewpoints lower, with
the exception of parts of SEMO where dewpoints may still
approach 70 degrees. This should bring some relief while
temperatures still top out in the upper 80`s to lower 90`s.

Ridging aloft will remain in place across the eastern US late
this weekend through much of next week. Daily highs will stay
in the upper 80`s to low/mid 90`s. The warmest day continues to
be Sunday where highs are forecast in the mid to upper 90`s.
Southerly low level flow will also begin to bring in higher
dewpoints meaning heat indices will start to climb back up to
near 100 degrees. An isolated shower or storm is possible Sunday
afternoon across western Kentucky. Chances of rain increase
next week especially Monday and Tuesday when guidance suggests a
few weaknesses in the western periphery of the ridge develop
along with increasing 850mb flow and moisture advection. The
ridge begins to elongate and push westward Wednesday leading to
increasing heights and likely lower rain chances mid to late
week.
