.KEY MESSAGES...

-Persistent high pressure will remain over the area and this will
 lead to above average temperatures and high temperatures will
 reach 105 degrees in some locations.

- Very low (20 percent or less) precipitation chances will linger
  for mainly the northwest combined Panhandles through the end of
  August but otherwise dry conditions will prevail for most
  locations.

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Monday night)

Not a whole lot of change in the weather pattern as we end the
weekend and August and start into the new work week. The 595dm ridge
remains centered over Texas and has a grip on our weather pattern.
This will mean temperatures in the upper 90s and lower 100s, with
some locations topping out today between 100 and 105 degrees. It
will be another hot day for Palo Duro Canyon with a heat advisory in
effect for temps upwards of 105 degrees. Rain will also be sparse
though there could be additional showers and storms(isolated,
generally less than 30%) that affect the northwest combined
Panhandles later this afternoon and evening, similar to yesterday.
With the lack of rainfall, hot conditions and dry fuels, we are
seeing another day of potential elevated fire weather concerns
especially in any breezy locations. Monday will be similar as well
to today.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday through next Saturday)

The overall weather pattern does not change much as we move into
September. There remains some potential that the upper ridge will
loosen its grip slightly and shift a little further to the east.
This might allow for a little more potential for diurnal showers and
storms to affect the western Panhandles, but confidence is not high
for this at this moment. Overall, the bulk of the area will remain
dry and continued above normal temperatures of upper 90s into the
100s. Models indicate that by next weekend, the upper ridge builds
back into the region with a big blocking pattern across the Plains
states with more troughing in the east and west. This is surely not
good news for any rainfall or hopes for a cooldown for the Labor Day
holiday weekend.

VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF cycle. Winds will be out
of the south today with sustained speeds of around 15kts and gusts
up to 25kts this afternoon. Gusts will diminish this evening.
Monday will be basically a repeat of today with continued
southerly winds and little to no aviation impacts from rain or
storms.
