472 FXUS62 KKEY 251411 AFDKEY Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 1011 AM EDT Sat May 25 2024 ...New DISCUSSION, MARINE, AVIATION... .DISCUSSION... Issued at 1010 AM EDT Sat May 25 2024 Another quiet start for the island chain with what was a gorgeous sunrise if you manage to catch it this morning. Once again across the deep Gulf waters, convergence from southeasterlies colliding with northeasterlies from a land breeze off the mainland, led to isolated to scattered showers over these waters. Elsewhere, the radar is free of precipitation echoes. Temperatures across most of the Keys managed to fall into the lower 80s. The exception (and two-time winner) was at Big Pine Key where the RAWS measures a low of 72 degrees. This was thanks to another night of clear skies, and calm winds, which allowed for excellent radiational cooling to occur. Since then, temperatures are already rebounding with lower to mid 80s and dew points in the lower 70s. A broad surface anticyclone is maintaining a light southerly wind for now. No changes needed to today`s forecast. This morning`s sounding continues to show dry air in place along with an inversion between 850 and 700 mb. This comes as no surprise as a low level ridge remains anchored over top of the Florida Keys providing a deep layer of subsidence across the region. The combination of which will make for nearly nil PoPs. As we go through the day and the southern mainland and Cuba will heat up, eventually leading to a diffluent flow across the Keys with light and variable winds. In addition, a light steering flow from the northwest may allow for an isolated shower or thunderstorm to drift over the extreme northern end of the Upper Keys. && .MARINE... Issued at 1010 AM EDT Sat May 25 2024 Light to gentle breezes generally out of the southeast to south will continue through this afternoon and tomorrow, and will periodically become variable in direction due to the light nature and effects of daytime heating. During the later half of tomorrow, breezes will clock to a southeasterly to south direction and modestly freshen as the dominant high pressure shifts its position. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 1010 AM EDT Sat May 25 2024 VFR conditions, with light and variable winds, will prevail through the TAF period at both EYW and MTH. && .CLIMATE... In 2008, the daily record high temperature of 91F was last recorded in Key West. Temperature records date back to 1873. && .KEY WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... FL...None.
