CIMSS satellite-derived vorticity analysis highlights a well-
defined mid-level ridge bridging the Gulf of Mexico and South
Florida. The 12z sounding at KEY reflects this feature, with a
mixed layer up to around 975 mb, and then a series of thermal
inversions above. KBYX is void of any meteorological returns at
this late Monday morning hour, which will continue through this
evening. The main weather story for the day is the heat.
Temperatures are already in the mid 80s across the island chain.
Combined with dewpoints in the mid to upper 70s, it feels like the
upper 90s to near 100F at most communities. Temperatures will
likely top out in the upper 80s to near 90F by this afternoon.

An area of high pressure will slide over the western
North Atlantic, resulting in generally gentle to moderate
southeast to south breezes for much of the week. A brief bout of
moderate to fresh breezes is also possible tonight through Tuesday
morning. Small Craft Exercise Caution headlines may be required
for portions or all of the Florida Keys marine zones for this
period.

VFR conditions will continue at both island terminals with
southeasterly near-surface winds near 10 kts, occasionally gusting
to near 20 kts during the overnight hours.

On this day in 2018, the daily record rainfall of 3.25" was recorded
in Key West. The odds of receiving any rainfall today, let alone
enough to break this record, are not in our favor. Rainfall records
date back to 1871.
