...Significant snowfall may impact the Western Mountains late
Wednesday night through Friday morning...

A new storms system currently near the British Columbia coast will
move southeast towards the area later Wednesday into Wednesday
night. Initially, the airmass will be rather warm with some of
the southern parts of the ranges below 8000 to 8500 feet seeing
more rain than snow Wednesday night and Thursday. Further north it
will be colder with most mountain and foothill areas seeing
mostly snow. As the storm system and cold front approach late
Thursday into Thursday evening, colder, more unstable air will
start moving in with potentially the heaviest snow period
developing for Thursday night and Friday morning along with
falling temperatures. Early indications point to 8 to 16 inches in
most of the mountains above 9000 feet with locally higher amounts
from the northern Wind River mountains into the southwest
Absaroka mountains and southwest mountains of Yellowstone National

In addition to the potential for significant snow, strong
southwest wind shifting to the west or northwest behind the cold
front Thursday night will lead to areas of blowing snow over the
higher exposed and pass locations. Stay tuned for further
information and potential for winter weather highlights as we get
closer to the storm approaching. A winter storm watch has already
been posted for the Teton and Gros Ventre ranges beginning late
Wednesday night through Friday morning where 1 to 2 feet of snow
could fall.
