Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
942 AM MDT Thu Jul 10 2025

.DISCUSSION...Dry and cooler conditions are expected today,
with high temperatures running about 3 degrees below normal. A
thick layer of smoke from wildfires in northern California and
south- central Oregon was visible on satellite earlier this
morning, but increasing northwesterly flow aloft is helping to
push much of it south. As a result, mostly clear skies are
expected across the forecast area by early afternoon.

That said, some residual smoke remains possible, particularly
if any new fires were sparked by yesterdays thunderstorms.
We`ll continue to monitor smoke trends throughout the day.

Winds will be breezy this afternoon, especially across the Snake
River Plain east of Boise, where gusts of 25 to 35 mph are
likely. No updates to the forecast are needed at this time.

&&

.AVIATION...Generally VFR. Surface haze and smoke layers aloft
near NV border, exiting toward NV today. Surface winds: W to NW

KBOI...VFR. Surface winds: NW 8-14 kt, with gusts around 20 kt

.PREV DISCUSSION...
SHORT TERM...Today through Saturday night...The region will
remain under a dry northwest flow today with temperatures 4-8
degrees cooler than yesterday. Breezy conditions across open
terrain will bring gusts of 25 to 35 mph to areas south and east
of Mtn Home through this evening. Friday and Saturday are dry
with temperatures bumping up a couple of degrees each day as an
upper ridge over the Desert SW flexes northward. Daytime mixing
will bring northwest winds each afternoon with windier spots
seeing gusts to 25 mph.

LONG TERM...Sunday through Thursday...A large high pressure
system developing over southern california will build into the
entire western CONUS region, returning a warming and drying
trend Sunday into next week. Valley daytime temperatures are
expected to climb back into the upper 90s Sunday and generally
remain in this range through Thursday. An upper trough digging
down into the northern Rockies on Tuesday may bring some
showers/thunderstorms in the higher elevations, but guidances do
not favor any precipitation or much of a cooling trend at this
time. Wednesday and Thursday will see a considerable guidance
uncertainty over the arrival of another trough from British
Columbia. For now, dry and warm conditions are expected
throughout the long term period.
