Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Northern Alabama
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
254 PM CDT Sat Aug 18 2018

.DISCUSSION...

Southwesterly flow will persist across northern AL for the
remainder of the weekend and into early next week, maintaining a
very moist airmass across the region. Scattered-numerous showers
and thunderstorms will be possible throughout the period, being
focused along a weak frontal boundary stalled across the region.
Frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall will be possible
with this activity, and most locations can expect to receive up to
1 inch of additional rainfall prior to the passage of a cold
front on Tuesday morning. Transport flow in the 5-10 MPH range
will yield fair smoke dispersion on Sunday, with indices expected
to increase region-wide on Monday as southwesterly winds
strengthen. The outlook for the remainder of the forecast period
calls for a drier and slightly cooler airmass to move into the
region in the wake of the cold front on Tuesday. Afternoon RH
values may fall into the 40-50% range on Thursday/Friday, before
low-level moisture returns to the region later this week. Along
with the increase in moisture, scattered showers and thunderstorms
will return to the forecast on Friday/Saturday.

Fog potential over the next few days: Patchy fog and mist will be
possible region-wide tonight, amidst scattered-numerous showers
and thunderstorms. The threat for fog will be reduced for all but
valley locations on Sunday and Monday nights.

Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
