Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Duluth MN
228 PM CDT Wed Apr 18 2018

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Thursday)
Issued at 214 PM CDT Wed Apr 18 2018

A system is passing by to our south mainly affecting southern
MN/WI and IA. A cloud deck is lingering along the southern border
of our CWA, but dry air from a building high should largely erode
that deck if it tries to move northward. Speaking of dry air, RH`s
in the Arrowhead are in the teens despite melting off snowpack
which shows you just how dry the air funneling in from Canada is.
Wind speeds are also elevated due to the are lying between low
pressure to the south and building high pressure to the north.

Tonight`s temperatures should be the last night well below normal
for awhile. Thursday brings the region back to normal temperatures
and they slowly go up from there through the weekend. Sunny skies
prevail.

.LONG TERM...(Thursday night through Wednesday)
Issued at 214 PM CDT Wed Apr 18 2018

Quiet and warm weather is the main story for the extended as high
pressure takes hold over the region. Temperatures actually exceed
normals on Monday before a cold front moves through bringing a
chance for rain and possibly even a small chance for a
thunderstorm. Probably can even pull out the "cooler by the lake"
terminology for the first time since October.
