...CONTINUED SUMMER`S WARMTH INTO SEPTEMBER...

AFTER A WARM AND DRY SUMMER, THERE WAS JUST A LITTLE REPRIEVE FROM
THE ABNORMAL WARMTH AND DRYNESS THROUGH THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER.
THOUGH THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN RAINFALL, AND VEGETATION REGAINED
ITS LUSHNESS, PRECIPITATION REMAINED BELOW NORMAL THIS MONTH, AND
GROUND WATER REMAINED LOW.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE THIS MONTH WAS 66.8F, WHICH PLACES THIS
SEPTEMBER AS 9TH WARMEST ON RECORD. THERE WERE 6 DAYS THAT PLACED
BELOW NORMAL THIS MONTH, INCLUDING FROM THE 2ND THROUGH THE 4TH OF
THE MONTH. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE ON SEPTEMBER 24TH WAS ONLY 64F,
ENDING A STRING OF 102 STRAIGHT DAYS THAT REACHED 70F OR GREATER.
THERE WERE 14 DAYS THIS MONTH THAT REACHED 80F OR GREATER, WHICH IS
TIED FOR EIGHTH GREATEST FOR SEPTEMBER AND BROUGHT THE YEARLY TOTAL
UP TO 95 DAYS WHICH IS GREATEST ON RECORD. THERE WAS ONE RECORD WARM
MINIMUM TEMPERATURE SET, THIS BEING 73F DEGREES ON THE 8TH.

PRECIPITATION THIS MONTH TOTALED 2.30 INCHES WHICH IS JUST OVER AN
INCH BELOW NORMAL. IT WAS A DRY MONTH, WITH HEAVY RAINFALL COMING IN
A FEW SHORT BURSTS ON THE 17TH AND 18TH. THE 1.76 INCHES OF RAIN ON
THESE TWO DAYS ACCOUNTED FOR OVER THREE-QUARTERS OF THE MONTHLY
RAINFALL. FOR THE WATER YEAR ENDING SEPTEMBER 30TH, 9 OF THE 12
MONTHS FINISHED WITH BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION.

THE MONTH STARTED ON THE COOL SIDE WITH COMFORTABLE AFTERNOONS IN
THE 70S, AND OVERNIGHT LOWS DROPPING DOWN INTO THE 50S. BY LABOR
DAY, THE 5TH, TEMPERATURES WERE BACK INTO THE 80S, WITH FULL
SUNSHINE. VERY WARM DAYS AND AT TIMES STICKY DEWPOINTS REMAINED OVER
THE AREA THROUGH THE 10TH. ON THE 10TH, A STORM SYSTEM BROUGHT
RAINFALL TO WESTERN NEW YORK, THOUGH THE BULK OF THE RAIN REMAINED
TO THE WEST OF THE ROCHESTER METRO AREA. BEHIND A COLD FRONT MUCH
COOLER AND DRIER AIR ARRIVED TO THE REGION FOR MID MONTH. A WEEK
LATER, ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM BROUGHT COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF RAINFALL TO
WESTERN NEW YORK ON THE 17TH AND 18TH. FAIR WEATHER RETURNED AFTER
THIS DELUGE OF RAIN, WITH TEMPERATURES NEAR NORMAL THE THIRD WEEK OF
THE MONTH. TO CLOSE THE MONTH AN UPPER LEVEL LOW BROUGHT MUCH COOLER
AIR, WITH PERIODS OF LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS THROUGH THE END OF THE
MONTH.

IN ALL ANOTHER AMAZING MONTH, WARM WITH JUST A FEW UNSETTLED DAYS.
