...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT NORTHWESTERN AVERY COUNTY
THROUGH 600 PM EDT...

At 526 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 7
miles west of Beech Mountain, or near Elk Park, moving northeast at
30 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and penny size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is
         possible.

Locations impacted include...
Banner Elk, Elk Park, and Beech Mountain In Avery County.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for
western North Carolina.
