Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX
624 AM CDT Fri Sep 12 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Temperature remain at or just above normal through the
  forecast period.

&&

.SHORT TERM (THROUGH SATURDAY)...
The mid and upper level subtropical high from northern Mexico
into the southern U.S. plains will remain in place through the
upcoming weekend. This will result in a continuation of
temperatures remaining at or above normal along with mostly dry
weather for south central Texas. The exception will be across
portions of the coastal plains westward to the Rio Grande where
some isolated convection may develop today and again on
Saturday.

&&

.LONG TERM (SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY)...
As we head into early next week, the medium range models show an
upper level trough axis moving through the southern Rockies into
the central plains states. This may serve to temporarily weaken
the subtropical ridge axis over the southern plains. However, we
don`t expect to see any significant change in our sensible weather
through the remainder of the forecast period. Little spread is
noted among the operational and ensemble guidance with respect
to temperatures. Highs will generally range from the mid 80s to
the mid 90s along with lows in the mid 60s to lower 70s. Any
opportunities for rain will remain scarce and primarily confined
to the coastal plains westward to near the Rio Grande where
moisture levels may be sufficient to support some isolated
convection.

&&

.AVIATION (12Z FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY)...

Some scattered clouds at about 1500-2000 feet are noted on GOES
19 nighttime microphysics imagery early this morning. Some brief
MVFR ceilings are possible through about 14Z before VFR
conditions are expected through the remainder of the day. Winds
will pick up out of the southeast at 5-10 kts with gusts of
15-20 kts today.
