Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Springfield MO
1152 PM CDT Mon Aug 14 2017

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Tuesday)

Weak zonal flow brought cloud cover across the Ozarks today as a
large cluster of precipitation fell over northern Arkansas. Areas
north of the state line remained dry with temperatures reaching
the upper 70s and low 80s.

For late tonight, additional showers and thunderstorms are
expected to develop across eastern Oklahoma. There is a chance
that some of this activity could spread into southern Missouri
prior to sunrise, therefore, we do have some chance pops going
tonight. No severe storms are expected through tonight.

.LONG TERM...(Tuesday Night through Monday)

Weak southwest flow will persist through the rest of the week as
disturbances ride the flow into the eastern Plains and Missouri.
These disturbances will trigger showers and thunderstorms and
bring them into the area. Therefore nearly all periods from
Tuesday night into the upcoming weekend will have precipitation
chances.

We also know that temperatures will experience a warming trend.
Models indicate a strengthening summertime high toward the
weekend. This will boost afternoon temperatures back into the
upper 80s. Heat index readings will reach the upper 90s.

.AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Tuesday night)
Issued at 1143 PM CDT Mon Aug 14 2017

KSGF/KJLN/KBBG tafs: Fog/stratus redevelopment is expected over
southern MO over the next few hours, especially close to the
MO/AR border. KBBG will have the best chances of IFR cat
conditions. Already seeing a hint of some stratus/fog in that
area. Farther north and west toward KSGF and KJLN, the lower
clouds may have tougher time to form, but some fog is still
possible. Conditions will improve after 14z, but will be the
slowest to improve at KBBG.
